Growing up, my mother shared a lifetime of stories about sacrifice and hard work. As a daughter of a tradesman (coal miner and carpenter) and social worker, my siblings and I learned of rural life in the midwest, day-to-day frugality, and to celebrate life’s accomplishments. My mother now shares these stories with extreme veracity as some of her nearest treasures. While her memory deteriorates and betrays, her lifetime of narratives will live on with the rest of her family.
